A
Distinctive Bed & Breakfast Inn.. A
Place To Call Home
Welcome to Hartley House Inn! You were very much on my mind as I
went about creating Hartley House Inn – in August of 1987. My
quest was to establish a distinctive bed and breakfast inn for
discerning “on holiday” guests and professional business travelers
alike.
Blending the historic with the romantic … the modern amenities
with a pure sense of home and family, was one objective. Providing
the finest service and hospitality – in keeping with our intimate
top-of-the-line European hotel ambiance – was another goal.
Offering a breakfast cuisine that one expects from the finest
restaurant seemed a must. Wrapping this all up in an affordable
room rate was essential.
Those who know me are quick to point out that I am a first class
perfectionist with an unwavering eye for detail. I must admit,
excellence seems to be integral to my value system. Naturally, I
have built this into Hartley House Inn as well.
Guests ask me about my career path, history as linked to
Sacramento, and decision to found Hartley House Inn. My answers
surprise me … still.
I
am fourth generation Sacramento. Went to high school and college
here. A move to San Francisco allowed me to finish a business
degree as California State University, San Francisco– MS Health
Care Administration, U.C. Berkeley. Actually, at this point, I did
not intend to come back to Sacramento.
Though I did well in the Health Care field, I was restless to
create from my own dreams. A bed and breakfast inn seemed “perfect
for me” given my love for fine historic environments, people, and
delicious foods.
Once I gave into my dream (perhaps you have had this experience as
well), I found myself in a series of circumstances that … well, it
made me wonder about the power of the imagination and the higher
powers as well.
On
short order, my sister rang me from Sacramento and suggested that
I “come home” and check out our great grandfather’s former home –
now belonging to another citizen of the town. I hesitated,
followed directions, and ended up walking into a place that
enveloped me in warmth and security, an old family home that
seemed full of possibility and promise.
My
guests (some have been returning for over a decade) tell me that
this same warmth and security wash over them as they enter Hartley
House Inn. They say they feel at home, at peace and ease … cared
for and refreshed. I hope you will feel the same.
In
closing, let me tell you about the excitement of Sacramento. We
are considered one of the world’s rare Urban Forests – the
tree-lined streets are a brilliant spectacle. The pulse of this
city is a blend of history, romance, politics, the arts, shopping,
dining, and prolific opportunities for recreation. We are close to
the Bay Area, Tahoe, the Napa Valley and Amador County wine
country and we are the gateway to the Gold Rush Country that is
full of exciting history and wonderful sight seeing adventures.
When
you come to Hartley House as a business traveler, we look forward
to getting to know you … becoming part of the beautiful fabric of
your life’s story.
Until we meet – I am cordially yours,
Randy
